When an app works on Wi-Fi but not mobile data, the app is usually installed correctly. The difference points to a cellular permission, data-saving rule, VPN, carrier connection or account restriction.
Check the likely cause first
- Open two unrelated secure websites while Wi-Fi is off.
- Check whether only one app fails or every app loses access.
- Review remaining prepaid data, signal type and any carrier outage notice.
Fix it in the safest order
- Open the phone cellular or mobile-data settings and confirm access is enabled for the app.
- Allow background data if the app must receive messages or complete uploads while not open.
- Disable Data Saver, Low Data Mode, VPN or Private DNS for one controlled test.
- Toggle airplane mode for about ten seconds, reconnect and test again.
- Update the app from its official store and restart the phone before clearing any data.
On a dual-SIM phone, also confirm that the intended SIM is selected for mobile data. A working call signal does not prove that the selected line has an active data connection.
How to confirm the fix
With Wi-Fi fully off, open the app, refresh its main screen and complete one harmless action. Repeat after locking and unlocking the phone.
What not to do
- Do not install an unofficial APK or a random APN profile.
- Do not clear app storage before protecting local files and sign-in recovery.
- Do not leave security tools disabled after the test.
When to contact support
Contact the app provider if only that service fails across carriers. Contact the mobile carrier if several apps fail and mobile data cannot open ordinary websites.
